Le Lac bleu #1 Oil pl=ainting by Australian landscape artist Nat Ward of Le Lac Bleu in France

Le Lac bleu #1

$990.00Price

Le Lac Bleu #1 is a meditation on stillness — a quiet expanse of water where colour, light, and air dissolve into one another. The lake becomes less a subject than a state of being: a surface that holds reflection and memory in equal measure.

Through oil and wax on card, I explore how translucence can evoke atmosphere — the gentle suspension of form in light. The wax acts as both veil and vessel, holding subtle variations of tone that shift as the viewer moves. Each layer of paint is an echo of water itself: fluid, reflective, and capable of depth even in its calmest state.

This work follows my continued interest in the spaces between — between land and sky, surface and depth, movement and stillness. While my Scrubland series attends to the textures of bush and earth, Le Lac Bleu #1 looks toward reflection, toward that moment when landscape becomes mirrored and indistinct. It’s a landscape felt rather than described.

The palette is deliberately restrained — muted blues, pale greys, quiet traces of light — creating a sense of pause, of air thick with calm. I want the viewer to feel the hush of water, the steadiness of horizon, the way time seems to slow beside still surfaces.

Ultimately, Le Lac Bleu #1 is a study in quiet attention.

It asks the viewer to look inward as much as outward — to rest in the calm, to sense what lies beneath reflection, to allow the image to hold them for a while.
