Le Lac bleu #1 | Nat Ward
"Le Lac Bleu #1 is a meditation on stillness—a quiet expanse of water where color, light, and air dissolve into one another. In this work, the lake is less a subject than a state of being: a surface that holds reflection and memory in equal measure.
Working with oil and wax on card, I explore how translucence can evoke atmosphere—the gentle suspension of form in light. The wax acts as both veil and vessel, holding subtle variations of tone that shift as the viewer moves. Each layer of paint is an echo of the water itself: fluid, reflective, and capable of profound depth even in its calmest state. With a deliberately restrained palette of muted blues and quiet traces of light, this work looks toward the moment when a landscape becomes mirrored and indistinct—a place felt rather than described."

Artist Note
Allow your eye to rest on the horizon line. Notice how the wax medium creates a sense of air thick with calm, inviting you to sense what lies beneath the reflection
