Tasmanian High Plains with Fox Gloves #2 | Nat Ward
This work is the second movement of a diptych exploring the expansive quiet of the Tasmanian high plains. In this alpine environment, where the land is sculpted by wind and altitude, the introduction of foxgloves creates a compelling tension between fragility and resilience.
By building, scraping, and softly veiling pigments with a cold wax medium, the surface mirrors the atmospheric qualities of the high country. The wax allows light to settle within the layers rather than reflecting off the surface, creating a subtle translucence that echoes the thin, cool air of elevation. This piece invites a slow unfolding of place, encouraging the viewer to linger within the gentle spaciousness and the unexpected radiance found in harsh, weathered environments

Artist Note
As you observe this piece, notice how the matte finish of the wax medium interacts with the light in your space. The depth of the layers is designed to reveal itself gradually, rewarding a longer, more contemplative gaze
